Canada Select is an industry led, consumer sensitive rating program. Travellers in Canada trust this rating system because it is built on a national, consistent standard of quality within categories of accommodation.
In 2012, Media Mechanics was approached to design and develop a new website for Canada Select. The design for the existing website had not been updated in nearly a decade and was outdated. In addition, it also lived in an older CMS which was limited and not user friendly when making updates. Research indicated that more travellers were seeking information and making accommodation decisions on mobile devices and tablets which the current site was not optimized for.
After a careful review of all requirements, both from a user and the client’s perspective, Drupal CMS was selected based on its flexibility and for ease of use when clients needed to make updates. The new design was constructed based on a “Mobile First” approach, ensuring that all mandatory information was identified up front and added to for larger screens resolutions, rather than the other way around. From a development standpoint, scripts were written to ensure pertinent content could be imported from the existing site. New and improved functionality was added to engage and improve the user experience and additional levels of access were built in based on user permissions. Phase one of the new website is live today with additional enhancements and upgrades to come.
Canada Select has a greatly improved website which makes it easy for users to find information based on geographic location, allowing them to plan their accommodations with ease. In addition, they have added value for the participating hoteliers by providing an attractive space for clients to show their accommodations.
